CANCELED – Passover Seder – Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 5:00 p.m
An updated message from Pastor Jonathan Sacks regarding the Passover Seder.
Regretfully, we have had to cancel the Passover Seder set for April 11 this year due to the coronavirus. As some of you know, just this past Sunday, the Center for Disease Control recommended that no event with over 50 people be held for the next 8 weeks. Our Seder was set for less than 4 week from then—half way through the 8 weeks. In addition, we generally have well over 100 people at our Seders.
Today we also received an email (below) from our caterer informing us that it cannot accommodate us due to their restrictions due to the virus. She stated:
“With current restrictions, we are only able to serve individually wrapped items to small groups.
I do not foresee these restrictions being lessened in the next 8 weeks at least.”
We will immediately refund/return all payments made for reservations.
In addition, we will make materials, including the Haggadah, “From Slavery to Freedom”, available for those who would like to have a Seder in their homes.
This current health situation and its resulting impact is something none of us could have foreseen. Our Passover team had done a great deal of preparation for the Seder, including pursuing a number of interviews with radio and TV, an article and advertisement in “SOKY HAPPENING, etc. We had an additional musician to help with the music, and “Seder Man”, who was a hit last year, was prepared to again grace us with his presence.
While we regret this turn of events, we know that our Lord cares so much for us. Nothing can or ever will thwart His message of redemption through the Jewish Messiah, the ultimate Passover Lamb. May His presence be with you throughout this Passover season and always.
In our Messiah,
Hope in Messiah Congregation

The Seder traditionally recounts the deliverance from slavery in Egypt experienced by the Israelites during the time of Moses. It is no accident that Yeshua (Jesus) died on Passover at the precise time of day the Passover lambs were to be sacrificed. During our Seder we will examine this connection, and the greater deliverance Passover represents, the deliverance from slavery to sin. The story of redemption through the ultimate Passover Lamb will unfold as we partake of the elements of Passover (including the four cups), hide (and children later recover) the afikomen, answer the four questions, sing Passover songs—all while explaining the Passover story and its ultimate fulfillment.
Together, we will enjoy a full course Passover Meal. This is a great time, not only for children, but for all people, regardless of their background or belief.
